To date Jules Boardman has worked with a wide variety of clients in the arts, entertainment, HR, legal and medical professions. Here is a selection of client testimonials:-
Jules is the godfather that your parents should have given you.
He’s the familiar compass you always want to carry in an inside pocket, the light in the darker of the nights.
He’s the challenge you always need and the question you would never ask.
When you achieve your greatest dreams, and with one last glance behind, complete your hardest journey, Jules will be the man you meet when you arrive who will say ....
“you see.”

I wholeheartedly recommend Jules Boardman and his skills as an executive coach - and indeed have gone on to do so to many people, friends and colleagues since my five sessions with him.
One of the most valuable aspects of my Clore Fellowship was being offered the opportunity to be coached by Jules. He combines incisiveness, warmth and integrity, identifying pressure points and anxieties with the deadly precision of a surgeon, and then tackling them with you with practical warmth and watchful wisdom.
Trust yourself to the process and to him - and then all sorts of magic will unfold. That is certainly what happened in my case, when a combination of exercises with psychological insight, caused a major fundamental and profound shift in my outlook on the possibilities in life ahead of me.
I now feel as if I am flying whilst walking on solid ground, with a new kind of confidence, in new areas and with new horizons before me: effortless flow.

I was coached by Jules over 5 sessions over six months as part of a Clore Leadership Fellowship. I chose Jules because I wanted coaching mixed with some business-minded mentoring from someone with a good understanding of the cultural industries.
Jules' coaching style is rigorous and insightful, with structured sessions and challenging 'homework', which means that the coaching is a deep, ongoing process. Whilst stimulating, I found the sessions tough-going at first. Fortunately Jules is experienced enough to know when things aren't working as well as they could, and honest enough to say so. This gave me the opportunity to suggest a slightly different way of working together and of structuring our sessions. Because of the changes we discussed and made then, the rest of the process was enormously productive and often very exciting. By the end of the coaching series, I had a set of new insights and ideas to take with me, and tools to help change unhelpful thinking patterns.
Jules is a highly professional, disciplined, hard-working and generous coach. He is also extremely smart and has a cracking sense of humour (not essential qualities for a coach, but they help). I can see myself going back to him in the future for further coaching.

As one of the mentors for the British Council’s International Placement for Creative Entrepreneur programme, Jules has been nothing but the greatest support for me. His guidance has been insightful, thoughtful yet always objective enough to help me gain perspective of my endeavours. More specifically, it is how he helped me through the process of defining my learning goals that made me become more aware of how and who I am, and started a process of reflection that has been enormously important for me at precisely this stage of my life. Jules helped me re-discover my inner self and gave me the courage to meet the crossroads I am at. All this was achieved not just with encouraging words but with the highest level of professional skill and a clearly defined method. Every meeting with Jules was a road of discovery: enlightening, refreshing, empowering, fun and never imposing.

I have just completed a coaching course with Jules Boardman. I learnt a lot through his systems of questions and discussions. Fears which had plagued me now seemed with comparative ease to have fallen into perspective. It is a very good feeling to contemplate the idea that now much more of my life, whether it be work or personal, is freshly understood. In short, I feel Jules has armed me with the kind of often abstract tools I need to move ahead.
Jules is always to the point, funny and strong. The two hour sessions moved along at a good pace leaving me with a fresh sense of progression.

The pleasure of working with Jules was that it never seemed like work.
It was always uplifting to be in his wise and sage company and to talk through issues ranging from one’s self, to work, the past and most significantly the future. It was not until I stepped away and reflected that I recognised the benefits of our meetings and reaped the rewards.
When I first met him my world of work was in turmoil. He worked with me, taking me through to the point where I had influenced the process of change within my business to the benefit of the business and myself.
I valued his counsel and enjoyed his company. He intuitively knew when I was ready to step away. And I now know I can always return to him as a valued touchstone.
A great return on investment.

Coaching was not attractive to me; it seemed loaded with far too many disagreeable associations. However, last year I felt at a professional dead-end, quite unsure which direction to take. Someone recommended coaching and suggested Jules Boardman as the right person. At the end of a short phone call, I was willing to give it a try. At the end of our first session, I knew that Jules could help. My only problem with coaching now was that I hadn’t tried it several years earlier.
It can seem like not much: asking some questions, listening well and offering occasional feedback (by agreement). A lot of people can do that, or something like it, but it takes fantastic discipline, insight and sensitivity to do it safely and in a way that is always in the service of the other person. By such capacities, Jules helped me to see what I needed to see, to understand myself differently and to make the right decisions about my career. It was a pleasure to work with him and a very enriching experience.

As part of my MBA, I had the opportunity to work with Jules Boardman during the spring / summer of 2008. We met several times and from the onset, I was thoroughly impressed with Jules' frank and direct approach. He was clear about the personal engagement and commitment to be expected and resolute in ensuring each session was planned, structured and productive - coursework linking sessions provided unexpected but rewarding mental challenges.
Difficult questions were always respectfully asked and inevitably led to much intellectual exploration and discussion. I was continually pushed to be honest with myself, my professional goals and on reflection, am thoroughly pleased with the outcome. I intend on continuing to meet with Jules in the future and would strongly recommend him to others.

Jules and I worked together over a six month period, meeting up once every three or four weeks for two hour sessions. The process was demanding, and Jules was challenging, but in a very good way.
Jules said to me early on in the coaching process “It’s the work that you do in between sessions that matters, Siobhan” – he was right and there was a great deal of hard work to do, but I’m really feeling the benefit now of the clarity I gained through the process about my skills, style, career aims and ambitions. This was executive coaching, but it taught me a lot of wider life lessons too and gave me much-needed confidence in myself.
Jules is a generous coach, a great listener and a good talker – all of which helped me to feel I could say what I want and get what I needed from our limited but very fruitful time together.
This coaching experience feels like the start of a process for me and I sense that I may well be back for some fresh perspectives and robust exchanges with Jules in the future. In the meantime, I’ve been recommending him as a coach to friends and colleagues, and will continue to do so.

I was mentored by Jules as part of my Nesta Cultural Leadership Fellowship in 2006-7. I came to the encounter with some suspicion. Knowing that Jules was an executive coach, I had images of compulsory self-improvement exercises and assertive goal setting. I was wrong of course. The gentle, humorous, perceptive way in which Jules encouraged me to focus on the things I have the capacity to do, and the barriers I sometimes create for myself, was the opposite of my expectations. More than anything else, Jules encouraged me to clarify and stick to my own best instincts, and to follow the most creative and satisfying aspects of my work and personality. I had always thought of myself as an intrinsically (perhaps annoyingly) positive person, but Jules helped me to see the ways in which positivity can be undermined by assumptions about how others will react, and by the expectations and patterns of thought into which it is all too easy to fall. The process of mentoring has made me more confident in my choices and clearer in my values. Already a couple of difficult decisions that would previously have had me tied in knots have been far easier to make as a result of this helpful and clarifying process.

Working with Jules was undoubtedly the best investment the firm has ever made in terms of team development and training. Jules structured a bespoke program which over a period of weeks challenged and stretched me as a Director of a rapidly expanding professional services business. Jules is demanding and focused, and brought a fresh perspective to our business. His insight and experience as a CEO of a successful venture capital backed business proved invaluable. It was an excellent program, which I would have no hesitation in recommending to others in my position.
